We didn’t start the feeding program today, but there were some wins. First- why we’re waiting to start the feeding program: the surgeon was happy to see the contrast move all the way through. However, he was less excited to see contrast remain in the stomach for so long. What that shows is a) the plumbing works (yay!) but b) the passageway is narrow. That’s expected until the surgical area completely heals. Terran did end up throwing up a couple times, always when we were moving him from an upright position to a flat laying down position, likely because it was splashing around whatever was still in his stomach. Overall the contrast study was successful, but came with a word of caution. Hence waiting one more day to see how Terran handles his regular digestive enzymes (spoiler alert: he did great! No puke today.) One awesome thing that came out (literally) was a “convincing” poo! So that’s a win.
While we couldn’t give an actual feeding, we were allowed to give Terran “binky dips” which essentially gave him the taste of breastmilk without any substantial amount (cruel, right?). He loved it. Usually, we have to hold the binky in his mouth, but when it has the taste of mother’s milk… suddenly Terran has cheek muscles and won’t let you take it away. I swear that kid used every last cell of that missing intestine for additional muscles. He’s unbelievable strong.
