It was so hard watching him on that.. The doctors wanted to control his breathing after surgery because he was still riding the anesthesia which can encourage poor (or no) breathing. Since they couldn’t force air into him without risking blowing the surgical stitching, they kept him on the ventilator for longer – cautious that if they took him off too soon there would be limited options to get him breathing again.
I was ready for a crying fit when they took it out – he had every right! Those tubes are so invasive. But we’re finding that Terran doesn’t complain for complaining’s sake. He was so chill during the removal – no crying, just relief. Walker & I stayed an extra night in the “sleep rooms” the NICU has available for parents, just in case something happened overnight. It’s Saturday night, and we’ve been sleeping in the hospital since Tuesday. It’s felt like a year.
