The doctors originally set expectations of a month+ until Terran is ready to start the feeding program, but he’s making moves faster than anyone predicted!
Over the past couple days his replogle (the tube that’s been sucking up his stomach contents- primarily backed up bile) has cleared from a dark green to a light yellow with brown flecks (dried blood from irritation). Today during the surgeon’s rounds, they decided to remove the suction so that the tube just pulls by gravity (much gentler). If he tolerates that for a day (doesn’t throw up) then he gets the tube removed!!! That tube is clearly the most invasive and annoying thing for Terran. It’s also a pain to handle when we’re holding him. It’ll be a big step to get that out.
I only saw him for about a minute at birth before tubes and wires were hung off him like a marionette. He’ll always have his IV, but to lose the stomach tube gives him full control of his mouth and allows the digestive enzymes to travel south and help create that convincing stool. I’m so excited for poop, but I’m also so excited to see my boy’s face without any tubes hanging out of it!!
Sometimes it seems like the tubes bother me more than they bother Terran. He’s happy and curious most of the time, just taking the world in. Today he had the BIGGEST smile and he flashed an ADORABLE dimple! Watch out Walker- mama’s features are coming out!
Transferred from Caring Bridge 8/19:
Patty Stratton : They certainly are…what a smile AND a deep dimple! He is growing every day. Is he showing weight gain? Not that I’m any expert in this area but I believe he is. Good news on the replogle–let’s all pray that he is able to allow nature to do its thing and move on. He has so much strength–beyond his young age…he’s already learned not to sweat even the large stuff, let alone the small stuff. He’s checking it all out and chillin’…using his energy to keep growing and surprising even the doctors! What a brilliant boy, Terran–keep up the great work you are doing! We are all so proud of you!
