We accidentally crossed the line into dehydration.. just barely, but his electrolyte levels did drop slightly and so we immediately changed our strategy with the g tube. It was always going to be a trial and error thing.. and we may have gotten over excited with the whole breastfeeding thing.. but we have it under control now. Since our first post op clinic visit where we got the guidance, we’ve been well below the established goal for how much to remove. Terran is still happy, smiling and cooing every day, but also gets his bibs back into regular rotation as we’re getting small spit ups again. Nothing like before, and since he’s happy, we can deal with a little bit of spit. It’s about trying to find the balance between comfort and health. We have another lab draw on Friday to check his electrolytes and I’m hopeful they’ll be back up in the normal range.
Terran has really blossomed since the (now timed) breastfeeds and g tube pressure relief. He started noticing his hands 🙌 and grabbing and touching things! He loves to talk to people, particularly the newest person in the room, as if to catch them up on what’s been happening. He’s still a cuddle bug and when he wakes up from naps, he sits in my lap and we just talk to each other. When I sing to him, he joins in. His contributions are limited to “eh” and “oo”, but he does a lot with a little!
Terran took his first trip to Bellingham, the longest car journey yet! He was a total champ both directions. On the way back, I decided to do his TPN in the car while Walker drove because otherwise we would’ve cut it close waiting for home. The vitamin vile extraction was a little tricky in a moving vehicle, but totally doable. After a hiccup with the line earlier in the week (we found out later that the manufacturer is looking into defects in some of the supplies) we started carrying extra supplies in case we run into issues again. Despite the rain monsoon, it was an awesome weekend introducing Terran to some family members and close friends. Terran took to his new crew instantly and chatted up a storm between cuddle naps! Covid, and Terran’s general risk for fevers, has slowed his introductions so each new greeting is something to be celebrated. He’s been able to spend some time with family in Seattle and I’m excited to see him meet even more folks at Thanksgiving! When Terran gets sick, he’ll get extra sick, plus each fever comes with a trip to the ER, so we’re being mindful of his exposure. Still, life goes on and with smart risks we’re doing our best to keep him safe this winter germ season. PSA: get your flu shot 😉
Love!
I love waking up to see there is a new chapter to read of Terrans book! ❤️Nana
Very Cute! When is Terran coming to Reno?
One photo looks like Daddy and then I see mommy in another photo. I love the “look” Terran gives to cousin Apollo. Great Gramma was in love holding Terran. I really appreciate the beautiful updates in the life of Terran.
I know we’re getting the curated pics, but what an expressive little guy!! I cannot stop laughing at that last one. Not to get ahead of myself, but I can’t wait to hear what’s going on in his little head! Must be such a little joy to have around. It’s no wonder he’s got such an amazing personality, considering who his parents are!
Terran sure looks to be thriving! What wonderful eyes! You have so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. I am keeping you all in my prayers for continued progress and happiness.
What a JOY to see Terran’s progress. Thanks so much for the updates and pictures. His expressions are priceless! I really look forward to these updates. Hugs and Kisses to Terran, Mom and Dad.
So thankful that Terran continues to grow and thrive and share in his environment!
